Magnus Mowat, in Cowie, in Glithno. Magnus was a younger son of Patrick Mowat (the elder) of Balquholly. Died around 1596/97. He married Isobel Hay. She was buried in Aberdeen 2 September 1615.

William Mowat, in Logie, in Crackenhill. Tacksman of half of the Kirklands of Fetteresso. He was buried in Aberdeen 28 October 1633.

John Mowat, in Powbair, then in Glithno. Chamberlain to the Earl of Erroll? He was a burgess in Aberdeen 24 August 1630. He married (i) Isobel (Elspet) Hervy, daughter of Mr James Hervy of Blanok and Elspet Stewart, and (ii) Elspet Burnett, relict of Andrew Strachan in Yetsyde. Isobel Hervy died 1 June 1650. John died 6 July 1655.

Bethia (Bessa) Mowat. Married Leonard Leslie, merchant in Aberdeen.

Sibilla Mowat. Married 1638 Alexander Mowat in Redcloak.

John Mowat, in Powbair. He was a student of grammar in 1583. Died before September 1621.

John Mowat. Apprentice to Alexander Hangitsyde, skinner in Edinburgh, 21 September 1621.

b.

Jonet Mowat. She married (i) (unknown) Mowat (died before January 1624), son of John Mowat in Powbair, and (ii) 1624 (contract dated 13 January 1624) John Rait, merchant and burgess of Aberdeen, and had issue.

Isobel Mowat. Died 23 August 1597. Married (i) 20 December 1575 Bartill Winton at Fetteresso, and had issue, and (ii) John Foullarton in Cowie, sheriff clerk of Kincardineshire, and had issue.

James Mowat, of Ardo. Died 1636.His tombstone is in St Nicholas church. Writer in Edinburgh. Later advocate in Aberdeen. Burgess of Aberdeen. Chaplain of the chapel of Holyrood. Solicitor for the ministers of the kirk. He married (i) Isobel Strang, daughter of Andrew Strang, and (ii) before April 1594 Jonet Hay, daughter of Mr George Hay, minister of Eddleston, and Marion Henrysoune, and (iii) Katherine Forbes, daughter of James Forbes of Bridge. Isobel Strang died before 1593. Jonet Hay died 21 August 1599. Katherine Forbes was still alive in 1639.

Bethia Mowat. Married 25 October 1614 Mr David Wedderburn, master of the Grammar School in Aberdeen. David Wedderburn died 13 February 1646. They had issue.

Alexander and Agnes Mowat (twins). Baptised 17 October 1602. Agnes was buried 16 April 1606. Alexander was as infant a burgess of Aberdeen.

Robert Mowat. Baptised 24 March 1607. Infant burgess of Aberdeen. He died before 1640.

Unnamed child. Baptised 25 April 1609. Buried 7 November 1610.

Isobel Mowat. Baptised 10 January 1614.

Margaret Mowat. Baptised 19 January 1614. Married (i) 8 October 1632 Mr Andrew Strachan, Doctor of Divinity, and had issue. Married (ii) 19 February 1637 Alexander Hay of Bilbo, second son of John Hay of Crimonmogate.

James Mowat. Baptised 9 February 1616. Died after 1680. Infant burgess of Aberdeen.He married a French woman who predeceased him.

III

Thomas Mowat, of Ardo. Baptised 17 October 1602. Died 27 December 1648. He was heir to his brothers Alexander and Robert. He married (i) shortly after 11 September 1626, Janet Ogilvy, daughter of Thomas Ogilvy, citiner of Brechin. Janet died between 1642 and 1646. He married (ii) Margaret Forbes, eldest daughter of John Forbes of Craigton. Margaret died 11 September 1662 and was buried at Turriff.

Children by Janet Ogilvy:

Child. Stillborn. Buried 23 July 1627.

Margaret Mowat. Baptised 20 January 1629. Died 7 March 1700. She married (i) Mr James Mowat of Logie (Mowats in Redcloak), and (ii) Mr Walter Copland in Ardneidly.

Child. Buried 17 July 1632.

4.

Thomas Mowat. Baptised 24 December 1632. Died June 1633.

5.

Isobel Mowat. Baptised 11 March 1634. Died.

6.

Janet Mowat. Baptised 31 March 1635. Died.

7.

Elizabeth (Elspet) Mowat. Born around 1637. Died 19 April 1707. Married (i) William Douglas, tailor, and (ii) 22 July 1680 John Maxwell, tailor in Edinburgh. John died in 1703.

8.

Andrew Mowat. Baptised 7 August 1642. Died. He is probably the child buried 15 November 1643.
