James Mowat, in Redcloak. James was a younger son of Patrick Mowat (the elder) of Balquholly. He was born about 1532 and died 3 February 1612. He married Agnes Auchinleck, sister of George Auchinleck of Balmanno. She died 1622.

Alexander Mowat. Writer in Edinburgh. Servitor to George Auchinleck of Balmanno, later to Mr John Hay and Mr Alexander Gibson, Clerk of Session. Burgess of Aberdeen 22 September 1609. He married (i) 11 April 1604 Katherine Nisbet, daughter of George Nisbet, merchant burgess in Edinburgh. Katherine died before 1612. Alexander married (ii)Margaret Barclay, daughter of John Barclay, indweller in Edinburgh. Marriage contract 14 November 1612. Margaret died 22 October 1616.

George Mowat, in Redcloak. Died in July 1645. Great bailie of baron court of Ury. Elder of the kirk in Fetteresso. He married 23 March 1623 Isobel Orchardtoune.

Mr Hugh Mowat. Graduate of King’s College in 1606. Writer in Edinburgh.

Elspet Mowat. Died in November 1614. First wife (marriage contract 14 January 1611) of Andrew Milne, younger, minister of Fetteresso. They had two daughters.

Isobel Mowat. Married David Grahame in Arduthie and in Milne of Glenbervie, bailie of baron court of Ury in 1607. He died in February 1618. They had five children.

James Mowat, in Tannachie, in Pitrichie, in Auquorties. Died in 1633. Servitor to George Auchinleck of Balmanno. Married 1596 Agnes Gardyne, daughter of Thomas Gardyne, minister of Tarves, and his first wife, Isobel Chalmers. She died in September 1622.

Alexander Mowat, in Powbair, in Redcloak. Wadsetter of Mergie. Died in December 1685. He married (contract 1638) Sibilla Mowat, daughter of John Mowat in Glithno (Mowats in Cowie and of Ardo) and Isobel (Elspet) Hervy. She died before 1670.

Elizabeth Mowat. Married (i) James Mowat, brother of Magnus Mowat of Balquholly, and had children. Married (ii) before 18 October 1688 Andrew Strachan, sheriff clerk of Kincardineshire. They had three children. Andrew died in July 1697. Elizabeth died in before January 1701.

d.

Marie (Marjorie) Mowat. Died before 1675. Married 3 November 1672 (contract 31 October 1672) Andrew Moncur in Barnhill at Bervie. They had a son and a daughter.

Roger Mowat. Writer in Edinburgh. Commissary Depute of Shetland from May 1666 to 1668. Burgess of Edinburgh. Born about 1620. Buried 16 November 1686. He married 6 August 1667 Marie Logan, daughter of Mr Robert Logan og Mountlothian and Marion Logan. She was buried 24 June 1689.

Mr James Mowat, of Logie. Died 5 March 1662. Graduate of King’s College 1619. Wadsetter of Logie. He married Margaret Mowat, daughter of Thomas Mowat of Ardo (Mowats in Cowie and of Ardo) and Janet Ogilvy.

Margaret Mowat. Baptised 15 January 1663. Married 19 December 1682 Alexander Orem, merchant and bailie in Aberdeen.

Mr John Mowat, of Balquholly. Advocate in Edinburgh. Baptised 8 November 1661. Died in May 1709 in Aberdeen.He married 3 October 1689 Helen Mitchell, daughter of Andrew Mitchell, provost of Aberdeen, and Elizabeth Hunter.
